Strong Muscles & Strong Minds

Vista Chiropractor Comments:

Ideal Protein Sources to Build Strong Muscles and Strong Minds*

1. Salmon: (ideal- also high source of Omega 3 E.F.A. for your brain)
Note: Do not eat farmed Salmon, aka. “Atlantic Salmon”. It is loaded with pollutants and is not safe for daily consumption. The pink color from farmed salmon is food dye!

2. Tuna: 2nd best, but canned tuna is loaded with mercury (0.4 - 0.6 ppm).

3. Turkey: (only non-processed without Nitrates, excellent source of Tryptophan, an Essential Amino Acid for brain function).  Boars Head is a good brand

4. Tofu – Organic of course

5. Veggie-Dogs and Veggie Bologna: Soy Protein (e.g. Yves Brand)

6. Protein Powder: **Whey and or Soy (Jay Robb’s is great)

7. Eggs: hard boiled or scrambled (best without hormones or antibiotics and are Omega 3 supplemented)

8. Seeds: Pumpkin and Flax Seed (also high in Omega 3 EFA)

9. Whole grains

10. Beans

11. Fresh Water Algae: (e.g. Super Blue-Green Algae)

12. Nuts: Walnuts, Almonds, Macadamia

13. Braggs Liquid Amino Acids: Soy sauce substitute; tastes identical

14. Beef and Chicken: although high in protein, they are also highly acidic to the body. Beef is also high in saturated fat. In addition, they commonly have high concentrations of hormones and antibiotic residues, which are detrimental to your body. Ask for grain fed, hormone and antibiotic free selections.

I also recommend Dr. Barry Sears The Zone. It is a very well balanced program and will teach you how to get the most out of the food you eat.

* Proteins are made up of building blocks called amino acids. Your brain produces neurotransmitters (e.g. Dopamine, Serotonin) that help you feel good, remember and concentrate. Your body needs amino acids to make a constant supply of these vital neurotransmitters.
